Our members use their own private vehicles specially kitted out with blue lights and sirens to get to the scene of incidents. We are trained to drive on blue lights by the Ambulance service.
The ideal vehicle for attending incidents is a properly marked and blue lit emergency vehicle. It costs about £15,000 to kit out a vehicle for use by a doctor and of course we have to obtain the vehicle to start with.
A second vehicle with the call sign 0223 was initially funded by The Hannah Foster Trust (click here for image). However, an electrical fire in September 2007 completely wrote the car off. (click here for image). A replacement 0223 (click here for image) is
waiting to be marked with green and yellow and to have blue lights fitted. This work is planned for April 2008, after which the new 0223 will be used by our doctors to attend incidents across Hampshire.
In May 2005 an Immediate Medical Care Motorbike, an "IMBIKE", was put into service. This vehicle allows for better mobility in heavily urbanised areas, along shorefront pedestrianised precincts, and at large mass public gatherings. Click here to visit the IMBIKE page. |
